Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has pleaded guilty to a charge of dissent by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after a heated exchange with umpire Ranmore Martinesz on day four of the second Test against New Zealand in Christchurch.
According to cricket.com.au, the ICC has fined Hazlewood 15 per cent of his match fee for "showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match" after he was heard swearing when his lbw appeal against Kane Williamson was turned down by the Decision Review System (DRS).
Hazlewood and the entire Australian team though that Williamson was out in the last over before lunch, but after skipper Steve Smith called for a referral after the original not-out ruling, third umpire Richard Illingworth gave the decision against the Australian team, saying the ball had hit the bat first.
The decision frustrated Hazlewood and the pacer’s obscenity was caught by the stump microphones at the non-striker's end at the Hagley Oval.
